Channeling 90s Grunge in a Floral Slip Dress

This outfit is giving edgy, yet effortlessly chic. It’s elevated, yet totally rebellious. I’m wearing one of my favorite blazers, and I’m loving the contrast of the houndstooth pattern blazer over the floral pattern of the 90s-style dress.

Let’s talk about this 90s floral slip dress! First of all, slip dresses feel rebellious because back in the day, slip dress were simply just slips. You had to wear one underneath a dress, so wearing just a slip dress became risqué and scandalous. Aka the ultimate rebellious look. And it comes to no one’s surprise that I am absolutely loving it.

I grew up watching my mom wear slip dresses or slip skirts underneath her dresses, so it’s especially cool to see people wearing slip dresses as the dress itself and breaking norms and stereotypes. I think that’s what makes culture and time periods so interesting and how our perspective shifts over time. Fashion and style is uniquely ingrained into our daily lives, so to look at the clothes we wear is to understand us as people!

Then, to add a blazer over a slip dress, which is typically worn in very stiff environments, is sort of like taking your power back in very cool way. We get to take clothing and make them into something new and unconventional. And of course, you can’t spell unconventional without combat boots—the staple of 90s grunge!

Okay, I’ll get off my soapbox about what makes fashion and style great, and just let you enjoy this 90s grunge-inspired look! Would you wear a slip dress like this? Share your thoughts with me in the comments!
