A Button-Down Shirt Is Now Your Cutest Top

This soft grunge work outfit is one that truly stands out from the crowd. This button-down shirt isn’t just an accessory or layering piece–it’s the main event! I love just how many ways there are to style a button-down, so let’s get into it!

Soft grunge work outfits can be tricky. Grunge in and of itself doesn’t lend itself to office environments, plus, they tend to be either too edgy or too revealing. So finding new ways to dress up appropriately for work is a must!

My take on a work outfit meant using one of my latest thrifted pieces, this bue and white striped button-down. I wanted to incorporate it in a new way, so I pulled it around my chest and buttoned it at the first button that would close. I even left the buttons off by one so I get that mismatched look on the bottom.

Then, I just pulled the two arm pieces over to one side and tied them together. Like this, this soft grunge work outfit feels original, fun, but still fit for the office! To make sure it was extra secure, I layered this brown star sheer top underneath to match my brown wide-leg pants. You could also layer it with a t-shirt or non-sheer top for even more professionalism!

I hope this breathes new life into your office outfits and inspires you to do more with your closet! Tell me in the comments below if you plan on trying this!

Blue/White Striped Button-Down Shirt

Like I mentioned above, this shirt was a recent thrift find! It’s also a men’s shirt which allows for that great oversize fit. You can find shirts like this all over in thrift and vintage stores, but if you’re in the market right now I’ve got some saved for you!

Brown Star Sheer Long-Sleeve Top

I’m such a fan of sheer tops, and this one is no different. This top is thrifted and originally SHEIN. People are divided on even thrifting SHEIN, but I still do because it means one less shirt in the landfill. I never link or support SHEIN, but you can check out some other cool sheer/mesh tops below!

Brown Wide-Leg Pants

Believe it or not, these were a thrift find as well! The best clothes are thrifted, right?? They’re from a brand called The Wide Leg, which I couldn’t find online but shop from alternative options linked!

Brown Platform Boots

I’m OBSESSED with these Docs and for good reason! I love a platform, plus these have a zipper down the front as well as laces for that classic look. And the brown leather? Ugh I could go on! The ones I’m wearing are the Sinclair Crazy Horse Leather Platform boots from Doc Martens. They have a similar version with flower studs on it, too, which is super cute and linked below!
