Forget the Iron—Embrace Wrinkles for the Ultimate Grunge Aesthetic

Putting this look together meant facing one thing I, and most likely you, have had seared into their mind for years. Never leave the house in wrinkled clothes (if you can help it). You’ve heard it all before, and once I grabbed these pants out of my closet, I was face with the question, “Do I iron my pants or do I lean into the grunge aesthetic with wrinkled pants?”

As you can see, I opted for the wrinkled pants. While I tend to lean more toward the upscale or soft grunge vibe, I’m a grunge girl nonetheless! And wrinkled wide-leg pants? I’m loving it. After I pondered it for a few minutes, ironing out the wrinkles seemed so anti to what I’m all about that I couldn’t believe I’d even pondered it in the first place!

OF COURSE wrinkles are grunge and anti-establishment. It goes against what we’re taught, which couldn’t be more edgy or rebellious IMO! So here you have it, your wrinkled clothes are grungy, and you have my full support to fully embrace them (just maybe don’t show your mom!)

The Look in Detail

Brown Sheer Star Top: One of the things I love most about thrifting is that I feel like I’m doing my part to keep clothes out of landfills. And yes, that means clothes that are often cheap and easily discarded, like this Shein top. It’s a super cute top, that I love and is now in my closet, being worn and shared. I’m a huge fan of sheer tops, so I couldn’t possibly have left this one behind! While I don’t link brands like Shein, I do encourage you to not skip out on cheaper brands when thrifting. And if you’re looking for a similar top, I’ve linked some other great options from brands I love!

Black Bralette: There’s nothing like having a good black bralette on hand. Not only are they the MOST comfortable, but you can basically wear them as tops! It’s a little rebellious, but what’s new in the life of a grunge girl? Be a little out there and wear the sheer top with the black bralette! Or better yet, just wear the bralette! Either way, you’ll be sure to spruce up your fits with this solid essential.

Brown Wide-Leg Pants: Ah yes, the star of the show! Here they are, in all their wrinkled glory. You can never go wrong with a good pair of wide-leg pants, and these are fulfilling my wide-leg pant dreams. The wrinkles are just an added bonus! Brown is such a great color, especially this time of year, and brown pants just complete this sepia ensemble. While they’re of course thrifted, there are other great pant options here!

Black Combat Boots: Grunge, grunge, and more grunge. I wouldn’t be a grunge girl if I didn’t have my combat boots. They’re well-loved, and dare I say, an absolute must in any grungy closet. Many a great boot exists, but I’ve selected a few of my favorites for your combat boot shopping needs!
