There are often times when I look at my closet, and I wish I had a a specific piece of clothing. I often want to go for a certain look, and sometimes, I just don’t have it! Know the feeling? The reality is, most of us don’t have the closet of our dreams. But that’s okay! You can do so much more with the clothes you do have than you think.
That’s where I come in! All you need for this DIY hack is a fun scarf you love (like my plaid scarf) and a few safety pins! And don’t worry, it won’t ruin your scarf. Because I love the look of a plaid skirt, I opted to turn my plaid scarf into one! I wanted it to be on the grungy side, of course, so I played around with it until I knew how I wanted it to look and pinned it.
I used safety pins to pin the scarf together around my waist, and the pins were able to be hidden because of the way I styled it. If you’re worried about the pins showing, I would style it in a similar fashion or pin from the inside. It’s a simple, yet effective DIY fashion hack that just may end up surprising you!
What I’m Wearing
Plaid Scarf (as a skirt): I’ve had this plaid scarf for several years, and it’s been well-loved. Giving it new life makes me love it even more! You can take any big scarf and turn it into a skirt, but here are some similar scarves like the one I’m wearing.
Black Mock Neck Crop Top: A simple black crop top is a great item of clothing to have, especially when you’re into grunge fashion. It’s a great piece to style with other items of clothing that make a statement, like my skirt and snake tights. Plus, who doesn’t love a crop top?! I’ve linked similar styles here.
Snake Tights: I love accessorizing, and as a grunge girl I love adding fun tights to an outfit! These snake tights give an outfit like this one an extra note of edginess that I just love. I found these exact tights on Amazon, but I’ve also linked a couple other styles.
Black Combat Boots: I believe a lot of what makes an outfit edgy or grunge are the shoes, and nothing says grunge quite like combat boots! You’ll see them time and time again because well, they’re classic! You can’t do grunge without a good pair of boots! I’m wearing an older pair of boots I found on ASOS years ago, but I’ve linked other great boots here.
Grunge babe! This page contains affiliate links to exact or similar styles. Should you choose to purchase, I may earn a commission which contributes to more great looks headed your way!
